Oakbrook Community Church seeks to glorify God through: Joyful worship Loving fellowship Sound study Caring outreach Authentic living The Church of Jesus Christ is made up of all believers around the world. We at Oakbrook Community Church are only one local expression of the worldwide body of Christians. As an independent, non-denomination community of believers, our desire is to glorify and bring honor to God through the following distinctives: Joyful worship (Psalm 100) We believe worship should be full of joy and beauty; our music worship at Oakbrook is a balance of traditional and contemporary styles. True worship also involves every act of living throughout one’s day. All is to be done with joy and service, knowing it is God whom we serve. An attitude of joy characterizes Oakbrook and it is a delight to be a worshiping body of believers. Loving fellowship (John 13:34-35) Jesus said his followers would be known by their love. God is love and we are to be a reflection of that unconditional love. Love is what everyone longs for and needs, but it is so often lacking in the world and, sadly, many times lacking even in Christians. Here at Oakbrook, not only are we friendly, but we strive to show love that accepts people where they are and encourages them to grow in their faith and in the everyday struggles of life. Sound study (2 Timothy 2:15) So many people today are confused and uncertain of who they can trust and what is true. God has revealed Truth in the pages of His Word. The Bible is reliable, historical, and understandable. At Oakbrook Church we study God’s Word so we can know and follow the Person and Plan revealed there. Interpreting the Bible accurately is important in understanding and following its message. That is why we spend time studying it together, both in small groups as well as hearing its message from the Pastor in his Sunday morning sermons. Caring outreach (1 John 3:16-19) While assisting fellow believers in their walk with God, our focus moves beyond ourselves and reaches out to others in our neighborhoods, our friends, our work places, and to the poor and needy. Oakbrook Church is involved in visiting the sick and the elderly, donating food for the needy, leading Bible studies for small groups, supporting missionaries abroad, interaction with other churches in Sheboygan, and hosting special events for youth in the city. As we grow and develop, we look forward to new ways and areas in which we can serve and participate, offering helping hands wherever God leads. Authentic living (2 Corinthians 12:9) At Oakbrook we are realistic about our strengths and weaknesses and we don’t pretend to be perfect or expect perfection in others. However, God is our strength and our example. By His grace He forgives and accepts us, allowing us to forgive ourselves and others. While acknowledging our limitations, we focus on God’s grace which enables us to grow, create, change, and love, bringing God the glory.
